TENNESSEE SEX REGISTRY

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation provides the information contained in this registry to Rutherford County Sheriff's Department. Their information is provided by the Register, therefore, accuracy cannot be guaranteed. This information should not be used to harass, injure, or commit criminal acts against any person named on this Registry. Any action could subject you to criminal prosecution.

Tennessee law allows for the release of Sex Offender's names and addresses. However the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation will only release those names of offenders whose acts were committed on or after July 1,1997. Going to the T.B.I. web page (www.ticic.state.tn.us) and clicking on Sex Registry, can locate these offenders. You may also contact T.B.I. by calling their Hotline at 1-800-HOTLINE.

The law states those offenders who committed acts before the above date are considered confidential and subject to release only if the specific sex offender is deemed a threat to the community. T.B.I. has determined that local Law Enforcement is in a better position to make the determination as to who poses a threat in their community. Because of this decision the Rutherford County Sheriff's Department will post specific sex offenders on the registry for this county.

Citizens do need to understand that the registry received from T.B.I. is a lengthy list for this county. The list contains names of people that not only live here but work here and live in surrounding areas. This list also contains the charges the offender was convicted of, not what they were actually charged with, in other words, what the offender plea bargained down to. Some of these charges were probably much more severe before the plea bargain but the Sheriff's Department has no way of monitoring this procedure so some names will not be posted as a result of this.

The Sheriff's Department has determined that any sex offenders committing sexual acts upon children are a threat to this community and should be listed in the County Sex Registry. It should also be noted that the Sheriff's Department is not provided with pictures of sex offenders, therefore only the information given below is available.
