The most visible division of the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office is Patrol
which follows the Community Oriented Policing philosophy.
The primary goal of this division is to perform skilled work functions associated with
protecting life and property, while enforcing state and local laws.

Highly trained deputies work to monitor the 626 square
miles of Rutherford County. Each shift of patrol deputies is assigned one of the
eleven zones of the county. Each zone varies in size and needs. From diffusing
domestic altercations to disaster response, these deputies are prepared for any
situation that may arise. Duties include:

Patrol Rutherford County to preserve order, prevent and discover the
commission of crimes
Enforce traffic laws
Respond to calls for assistance
Render aid to victims: Automatic Electronic Defibrillators,
CPR and First Aid

Conduct investigations, protect crime scenes and prepare written reports
Make arrests, transport prisoners and appear for all court proceedings
Respond to various community needs such as prevention, education and victim assistance
Serve state and civil warrants
