Virgil M. Gammon began his career in 1974 with the United States Army
Military Police. Upon exiting from the Army in 1977, he joined the Rutherford County
Sheriffs Office as a Patrol Deputy. In 1978 he was promoted to Detective and in 1984
to Detective Sergeant over investigations. Since that time, Gammon has been steadily
promoted through the ranks and in 1993 became Chief Deputy Gammon, second-in-command under
Sheriff Truman Jones, Jr.
Chief
Gammon is commander over all law enforcement operations at the Rutherford County
Sheriffs Office. Those operations include Patrol, Investigations, Special
Enforcement, F.A.S.T., K-9, Detention, Communications, School Resource Officers,
Judicial/Courtroom Security, and Warrants and Records Divisions.
