Public Education Programs

The district has an active public awareness program ranging from community appearances, programs in schools, involvement with community agencies, and coverage in the local newspaper.  Two noteworthy programs of RCECD are the "911 How It's Done" featuring Buzzy and the use of our mapping system.

Buzzy and "911 How It's Done"

In 1995 we began supplying all first grade classes in Rutherford County and Murfreesboro City school systems with the "911 How its Done" program. In 1997 we extended this program to include Student Resource Officers (SRO), DARE officers, Red Cross, Headstart, and a local children's museum.

This special program features a large interactive book with an oversized telephone character named Buzzy.  Buzzy teaches children about 9-1-1 and provides examples of situations on when to call and when not to call 9-1-1 by using a  hands on "lift the flap" format, along with reusable stickers and audio cassette to reinforce the concept.

This program was first developed by BellSouth and is now administered by NENA.  Click on Buzzy's picture to get more information on this product from NENA. If you are in the Rutherford County, Tennessee area and would like more information on the availability of this program, contact our office at (615)890-7550.
