Rutherford County maintains four primary and one secondary PSAP locations to handle 9-1-1 emergency calls for approximately 175,000 residents located within the 614 square miles of the county.  All PSAP locations handle the general phone traffic and dispatch duties of their department, as well as handling 9-1-1 emergency calls.  Each PSAP maintains a 24 hour schedule.

The four primary PSAP's include LaVergne Police Department, Smyrna Police Department, Rutherford County Sheriff's Department, and Murfreesboro Police Department.  The Rutherford County Emergency Medical service is a secondary PSAP, receiving calls from all the primary PSAP's when ambulance service is needed.

The City of LaVergne is located on the edge of Rutherford County next to the Davidson County line and is in close proximity to I-24.  The LaVergne Police Department employs six telecommunicators to receive and dispatch police, fire, and 9-1-1 emergency calls on a 24 hour basis.  The LaVergne PSAP represents approximately 6% of the total 9-1-1 calls received in Rutherford County.

Another primary PSAP is located in the Town of Smyrna, which is nestled between LaVergne and Murfreesboro and is easily accessible from I-24.  Thirteen telecommunicators from the Smyrna Police Department handle approximately 13% of the Rutherford County 9-1-1 calls, as well as administering routine police and fire calls.

In the heart of Rutherford County is the rapidly growing City of Murfreesboro.   The PSAP located at the Murfreesboro Police Department handles the largest percentage of calls for Rutherford County due to the high population in a dense area.   41% of 9-1-1 calls are maintained by 16 telecommunicators, who also monitor police and fire calls.

The surrounding communities of LaVergne, Smyrna, and Murfreesboro fall under the jurisdiction of the Rutherford County Sheriff's Department.  At this PSAP location 22 telecommunicators respond to 28% of the counties 9-1-1 calls, in addition to answering and dispatching routine calls.

The Rutherford County Emergency Medical Service is a secondary PSAP that receives transfer calls from all the PSAP's.  The Emergency Medical Service employees 9 telecommunicators/EMD to dispatch ambulance service throughout the county.  To provide fast and efficient response the EMS  maintains eight ambulance stations:  606 E. Burton St., 910 Old Salem Rd. & 676 N. Rutherford Blvd. in the Murfreesboro area, 579 Fortress Blvd in the Blackman area, 504 Hwy 99 in Eagleville, 124 Stones River Ln. in Christiana, 400 Enon Springs Rd. East in Smyrna, and 119 Floyd Mayfield Dr. in LaVergne.   Another station is scheduled for construction at 565 W. Thompson Ln. in the Murfreesboro area.
