The Rutherford County Rabies Animal Control Program is
a county department working to control and limit irresponsible pet ownership, pet
over-population, and animal abuse.
Working under the Rutherford County Private Act
(Chapter #55, Senate Bill #1161) passed through the Tennessee State Legislature, the
Animal Services Department monitors animal rabies vaccinations and registration, rabid
skunks, animal bites, animals running at large, and animal neglect. The Animal
Services Department also strives to educate and inform the public of the growing problem of pet
over-population through the local schools. The Animal Services Department considers itself
to be a service-oriented organization utilized to protect the citizens of Rutherford
County as well as defending animal rights.
