We are also pleased to announce that Rutherford County has hired John Lodl as their first, full-time director of the Archives. John worked as a graduate student at the County Archives from 2000 to 2002. In the past several years he has served as director of two museums (Bradley Academy Museum & Cultural Center and the Sam Davis Home & Museum), and also worked as a Senior Archivist at the State Archives of Georgia. John is excited to take on his new role and happy to assist in the preservation of Rutherford County history.

  • NEW GRADUATE ASSISTANTS:
Recently, the archives welcomed two new graduate assistants for the new fiscal year, Amy Lundell and Sean Todd. They both are pursuing their master’s degrees in public history at Middle Tennessee State University this year and they are excited about working at the archives.
  • NEW INDEX FOR FAMILY INFORMATION COMPLETED:
Discouraged because you haven't found a will for your ancestor who lived in Rutherford County? Help may be on the way. When a person died without a will, it was necessary to go to the Chancery Court to assign an administrator for the estate and to determine the legal heirs of the deceased. We have recently completed going through the Chancery Court files from the 19th century and extracting family information from all of the cases involving estate settlements. If you have an ancestor that died in Rutherford County check with us for information.
